Lincoln L 100

Model L 100 Concept, Lincoln's vision of the future

Lincoln, Ford's premium brand, was acquired by Ford 100 years ago and to celebrate the occasion, has unveiled the Model L 100 Concept, an electric and autonomous concept car that draws on the automaker's history but with a vision of future mobility.

The concept is spectacular. It features a slightly flattened teardrop shape and has no steering wheel or pedals, as it is designed as a 100% autonomous vehicle offering a smart driving experience.

Because of its futuristic nature, Lincoln designed the concept with the intention of installing an electric motor mounted on the axle of each wheel, with power for these motors coming from a solid-state battery built into the structure.

To add to the style, the L 100 features a glass roof and reverse-hinged doors stretching out on either side of the vehicle when opened. And, for an additional futuristic design, the wheels are covered and use lights and sensors that communicate movement, battery life and human presence.

In other words, the Model L 100 detects the driver's presence as he or she approaches and activates what Lincoln calls a "symphony of light" to accompany the driver around the vehicle through the implementation of an artificial intelligence system and GPS sensors.

Interior and driving

Inside, there is no longer a steering wheel or pedals, as the car would drive itself. However, if a human wants to drive it, autonomous driving can be overridden, and a function can be activated to accelerate, stop and steer the car. Lincoln calls this function "Chess Piece" and it is performed on an interactive screen in the center console.

As for the seats, they feature different configurations designed to encourage interaction between the driver and passengers. For example, the front row seats can be folded forward to create a social environment.

The Model L 100 Concept was unveiled at the Concourse d'Elegance in Pebble Beach, California, where Lincoln marked its 100th anniversary. However, it is a car that will not be put into production due to its futuristic features. No details on a possible mechanical design were revealed at this time either.

The reality is that this concept would be a sample of the path Lincoln will take, in terms of design, for its upcoming electric cars. Remember that the luxury brand promises three electric vehicles before 2025 and another in 2026.
